Shelter Loves 1.20.17

Friday, oh how I love thee. It's been a busy week. I'm working on some pretty exciting projects with Lindsey. A number of my clients seem to be in the re-do kitchen and bathroom mode and I am LIKING it! A good gut job is the impetus for tapping into creativity. I sketch, search for inspiration everywhere, brainstorm and sketch some more! I've even got my kids into sketching.  Here's what's been on my brain this week!

1. Warmer weather! I am over my winter wardrobe already. Revolve has a beautiful selection of resort clothing and accessories. I seriously am in love with every pick on their resort page, including this entire look. At this point (post two c-sections) I don't show my midriff much but a simple white sleeveless shirt would work paired with these pants.
2. Rattan. Classic rattan and bamboo furniture adds an airiness to interiors. I love when it's used indoors and year round! Serena and Lily has been hitting it out of the park lately.
3.  I'm a bit of a jewelry junkie. This bracelet is adorable! Isn't Valentine's Day soon??
4. The Dorothy Draper color palette for Ben Moore is speaking to me right now. I planing to have a bed that was once my grandmother's sprayed for Emerson's room. I'm leaning towards the Cactus Flower shade or something close to it.
5. Gandhi the great!
6. I think most of you know about my obsession with NOT getting skin cancer again. This is the BEST sunblock I've tried. It is the reason I fell in love with the Beautycounter products and mission. It smells amazing, isn't greasy and is free of harmful chemicals. I apply it under my face cream daily.
7. I have a room off the back of my house that doesn't look anything like this, but I want it to! The light and architectural details are beautiful.

Love the look...

As of right now I don't have any plans to escape the winter cold but if I did I'd be packing an embroidered or ethnic inspired top. Kaftans, Vyshyvankas, and tunics are all equally gorgeous and I appreciate the attention to detail. Here's a round up of some of my faves. If you're jetting off this winter, enjoy! You may think about packing one of these statement blouses! For a more subtle look, choose stripes or a solid! Aerin and Giovanna get it right every time! I adore their style.(they are both wearing Vita Kin tops btw). Vita Kin dresses are inspired by cultures around the world and are hand made in Ukrainian workshops. There are also shops on Etsy that sell similar versions. Cheers, it's Thursday already!!

for the love of

If there is something I don't tend to tire of, it is chinoiserie. Just when I think it's feeling predictable and over done, I fall in love again. At this point, my feeling is chinoiserie designs are timeless and far too gorgeous to grow old. Over the years I've pretty much fearlessly embraced color and have learned I would rather take risks than be boring. Bailey's home is featured in this month's House Beautiful and it is far from bland. She beautifully covered her dining walls in a Zuber paper. (see the beautiful panels below) I also have a fondness for most things French. (including my heritage) so my love with chinois panels (that are often hand painted in France) runs deep. The only down side? The price tag! See the rest of Bailey's exuberant home here

What's cooking: In the kitchen

Every year ushers in new concepts and design trends for your home. One I've had my eye on for a while is painted green cabinetry. We've all seen grey, white and blue accents in the kitch but this year I predict that we're going to see more green and more of this cheery shade in general in home decor. Below I've included a few of my favorite green colors for kitchen cabinets! If covering all of your cabinets in green feels a bit risky try it as an accent on lower cabinets or an island. I opted to use it on the interior of my glass cabinet.

Shelter Loves...

It's amazing what a 45 degree Friday can do for your state of mind! We're cooking with ideas over here at Shelter....Here's what I've had my eye on this week. If you're looking for more inspo and you don't follow me on Pinterest, find me here

1. I have naturally wavy hair and may try to embrace the curl more. I'm going to try this with my barrel roller iron. Her hair is fabulous!!
2. + 4. I have been obsessed with Pyne Hollyhock fabric for some time and need to find a project for it! It was originally used by the great Albert Hadley in the early 1960's on his client Nancy "Princess" Pyne's home in New Jersey. It still feels fresh today.
3. AMEN.
5. Yes, ruffles are still hot for Spring! I've been eyeing this sweater for a while. It may need to come and live in my closet.
6. I don't think I'm a candidate for a capsule wardrobe but I do need to refine my closet and purge anything I haven't worn in two years! I want to organize my things so I can ACTUALLY see my clothing....Image via
7. Jules always looks adorable. I love how a casual outfit can still feel uber chic.
8. Okay, so my parent's got these wonderfully yummy caramels as a gift. (I would know, I ate about four) They are hand crafted using the milk from 40 of the most adorable goats (I have a soft spot for goats) in southern Vermont. Their branding, the couple's concept and the farm all look perfect. I plan to visit "Big Picture Farm" with my children on one of my trips up North this Summer!! (more photos of the farm below)

People and places like are what make Vermont feel like my home away from home!! (insert heart and prayer hands)

Love the look

I mentioned that I'm seeking a little more calm this year, so I've decided to add more yoga to my life. I've always done a class here and there but I'm aiming to visit the mat at least once a week. (or whatever that saying is) ;) Even if I'm not heading to yoga, I often look like I am. I mean how do I squeeze into jeans everyday when I can dress in super comfy, flattering clothing. Here are some of my favorites and everything you need for a class at the yoga studio.

in the kitch

Hello, hello! As you know, I'm always tweaking my little ranchola. I finish a room and then decide to change up another. My goal is to have it photographed this Summer so you can see what's been going on around here for the past three years!! I started with a home frozen in time (1972 to be exact), it has taken me a while to transform the spaces. I have, of course been on the single Mama budget but have NO shortage of ideas!! A few weeks before Christmas I had the opportunity to collaborate with Ace Hardware and OPI on my kitchen cabinet interior. I'm always amazed by the magic of a fresh coat of paint. I transformed the inside of my glass cabinet with a lovely shade of green, named Jade is the new black. It is an OPI nail lacquer shade available in Clark+Kensington paint. I'm loving how it looks with my white + gold dish-ware! Splashes of fresh color make this girl happy. Read all about it on OPI's blog here.

January - Color Crush - canary yellow

Yellow has never been my go to color but I have always enjoyed it as a fun, bright vibrant and
often unexpected accent!! And if last night was any indication of Spring trends, I would
bet yellow is going to be a go to accent this Spring. Gucci even created a yellow loafer this winter.

Yesterday was the twentieth anniversary of Jackie O's death. As I've mentioned before she has
long been a fashion icon I've admired. I love everything about this photo of her. Including the pink
and yellow together!!

Natalie Portman looked radiant and sophisticated in her yellow gown,
which was clearly inspired by Jackie and most likely the anniversary of her passing. Have a
fabulous week. I don't tend to discuss politics on my blog but Meryl's acceptance speech made my day
for sure!! xx

Shelter Loves....

Happy Saturday!! I love how a New Year ushers in the concept of fresh starts and new beginnings.  We are bracing for a
Nor-Easter in Boston so I am in a cozy down, nesting mode. In fact I nest all winter. Hehe.

Here is what I'm loving this morning! Keep warm and stay safe. xoxo

1. & 5. For those of you lucky enough to be jetting off on a warm vacation this winter, I am adoring
this woven clutch and this fabulous tortoise necklace as take alongs.
2. Bows + velvet, please.
3. Half the battle is your mindset!
4. One 2017 goal is to start to read more again. I used to read a ton before I had children.
I would love a room with built in bookshelves someday. My books are packed away and
scattered in random places. To house them in the same area would be divine!!
6. Julia always looks so perfect, it kills me. This was a beautiful shoot and home with Lela Rose
7. I love the idea of displaying coral in a non-functioning fireplace or during the summer months.

Love the look - classics to keep you cozy.

With the thermometer barely creeping over 30 degrees today, January has surely arrived!
It feels even colder to me, so I'm loving the look of closet classics that not only look
good but keep you cozy and warm! We work hard, during the winter months, to stay
toasty here in Boston. It's a bonus if your wardrobe is also comfortable. I have to admit,
since having two kids and being in the design field, where I visit projects under construction,
I don't wear too many high heels anymore. Luckily low booties and sneakers are very hip these
days. Here are the deets on a look I am loving with cropped, step hemmed jeans - two ways.

Black fur hood jacket//black quilted sleeve coat//tortoise earrings//classic white shirt
//bootie//jean//lip balm//pig earring (the little girl in me loves these)//
waffle knit sweater (super comfy)//Stan Smith sneakers.
